Moving To Hollywood: Life At The Avondale

May 20, 2022

The Avondale in Hollywood is a charming, Italian Renaissance building in the heart of the city. It’s a gorgeous combination of classic 1925 architecture and updated, modern, hip interiors. The vintage apartments offer refinished hardwood flooring, exposed brick walls, stainless steel appliances, granite or quartz countertops, designer light fixtures, ceiling fans, and more! Shopaholics will love this location. There’s plenty of it around within walking distance. And the neighborhood has a Walk Score of 95! Win-win! The neighboring single-story retail buildings provide the Avondale with unparalleled views of the Los Angeles skyline and the famous “Hollywood” sign, not to mention delicious food (we crave the crepes at Solar de Cahuenga).

Amenities you can enjoy at The Avondale:

  • Recently renovated
  • Built-in walk-in closets
  • Separate kitchen
  • Tons of storage space
  • Renovated lobby
  • Laundry on-site
  • Private view of the Hollywood sign in some of the units
  • Pet-friendly

The Hollywood neighborhood has plenty of amenities as well. Here are a few of our favorites:

Supertoro

Location: 1542 N Cahuenga Blvd

Supertoro is an original concept by K2 Restaurants. The restaurant group is known for blending the whimsical, the curious, and the obsessive to incubate and operate new and interesting restaurant concepts.
They draft a new chapter with each unique concept, telling the tales of the chef, the city, and the inspiration that aligns to create unforgettable moments.
Supertoro was inspired by late nights in Japan’s famous Izakayas.
Culinary Managing Partner, Annie Nguyen, creates crisp and modern build-your-own bento boxes, filled with fresh salads, cut and hand rolls, specialty crispy rice, and more – all infused with a sense of simple wonder.

Running Goose

Location: 1620 N Cahuenga Blvd

Running Goose is California Comfort food in Hollywood’s backyard. They jokingly refer to themselves as “Hollywood’s intermezzo” because when you’re on the patio, either next to the fire pit or overlooking the garden, it’s easy to be refreshed from the hustle, bustle, and noise of Hollywood Boulevard.

Their dream is to serve you cuisine that genuinely reflects Los Angeles. They start with a base note of Central American influence and then feather in culinary stylings from across the globe.

All of these cultural influences work together to offer you something truly beautiful and unique.

Off Vine

Location: 6263 Leland WayLooking for romance? Off Vine was named in the Top 10 Most Romantic Restaurants in the Country by Forbes Traveler Magazine.

They are a quiet oasis in the noisy, chaotic city that is Hollywood today. Since 1989, Off Vine has been serving a wide range of hearty California favorites with regional American influences.
Off Vine serves California American cuisine with homage to the comfort foods, unstinting portions, and simple elegance of the finest home kitchens across the country. And they serve it for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. If you’re looking for gluten-free and vegan options, they have those too!

Sugarfish

Location: 6115 Sunset Blvd. #170
If you live in Los Angeles you know we have a lot of great sushi. This sushi spot comes highly recommended!

Sugarfish serves only traditional sushi of the highest quality based on Chef Nozawa’s style of sushi.
Their passion is to carry forward his great tradition and style of food – which many believe is the best sushi there is.

Solar De Cahuenga

Location:1847 N Cahuenga Blvd
This organic cafe prides itself on making everything in-house from scratch, to name a few: jam, all sauces, dressing, etc. That way they ensure the quality and freshness of the products. They use all natural meats with no antibiotics, no added hormones, or added nitrates.
Many of the ingredients are organic, and if not, they are of the highest quality available and locally sourced. The produce comes every day to keep the food as fresh as possible.

Griffith Park

Location: Just west of the Golden State Freeway

With over 4,210 acres of both natural chaparral-covered terrain and landscaped parkland and picnic areas, Griffith Park is one of the largest municipal parks with urban wilderness areas in the United States.

Situated in the eastern Santa Monica Mountain range, the Park’s elevations range from 384 to 1,625 feet above sea level.

With an arid climate, the Park’s plant communities vary from coastal sage scrub, oak, and walnut woodlands to riparian vegetation with trees in the Park’s deep canyons.
The California native plants represented in Griffith Park include the California species of oak, walnut, lilac, mountain mahogany, sages, toyon, and sumac. Present, in small quantities, are the threatened species of manzanita and Berberis
Over the years, recreational attractions have been developed throughout Griffith Park, however, an amazingly large portion of the Park remains virtually unchanged from the days Native American villages occupied the area’s lower slopes.
Today’s Griffith Park offers numerous family attractions, an assortment of educational and cultural institutions, and miles of hiking and horseback riding trails, and provides visitors an ideal environment for enjoyable recreation activities.

El Capitan Theater

Location: 1755 N Highland Ave.
Go to the movie in style and see moves the way they were meant to be seen!

In the 1920s, real estate developers Charles Toberman and Sid Grauman built the Egyptian, Chinese, and El Capitan theaters. Stars of the stage attended the opening of the El Capitan Theatre, the largest legitimate theater in Hollywood, which debuted on May 3, 1926.

They filled the 1,550-seat theater, dubbed “Hollywood’s First Home of Spoken Drama”, for the premiere of the fresh-from-Broadway play CHARLOT’S REVUE, starring Jack Buchanan, Gertrude Lawrence, and Beatrice Lillie.

In 1941, the El Capitan Theatre was converted from a playhouse to a movie theater. On May 8, 1941, Welles’ first feature film, CITIZEN KANE, premiered at the El Capitan Theatre. Shortly thereafter, the theater closed for a two-month renovation and modernization.

The theater reopened in March 1942 as the Hollywood Paramount, a new, streamlined “art moderne” first-run movie house. Meanwhile, the El Capitan name and the entire El Capitan staff moved to the nearby Hollywood Playhouse.

In 1989, the Walt Disney Company joined forces with Pacific Theatres and launched a two-year, museum-quality restoration of The El Capitan, led by renowned theater designer Joseph J. Musil.

Musil with the supervision of the National Park Service’s Department of the Interior, and guidance from conservator Martin Weil and architect Ed Fields, achieved the goal of recreating the original 1926 look and feel — including original design elements such as the ornate plasterwork found hidden behind walls and the opera boxes in the main auditorium.

The theater reopened its doors to the public on June 19, 1991, for the world premiere of Walt Disney Pictures’ The Rocketeer. It became the first of many Walt Disney Pictures feature films to premiere at the El Capitan Theatre.
